#IWD’24: BeMore Sisters’ Network to hold girl’s Summit in Akure
As the 2024 International Women’s Day is being marked across the globe today, March 8, themed, “Inspire Inclusion,” BeMore Network Sisters, a subsidiary of the Bemore Empowered Girls Foundation, is set to commemorate it with a day program tagged Girl’s Secondary School Summit in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The Summit, aimed at inspiring and encouraging girls to be advocates of gender equality, women’s rights, and female leadership as they grow into womanhood, will come up on March 13th, 2024, at Agricultural Development Project, Alagbaka Akure.
According to the coordinator of BeMore Sisters’ Network, Miss Abimbola Ogunsemore, the summit would engage a minimum of 10 girls each from five secondary schools in Akure.
She maintained that the summit would help to increase self-confidence and leadership skills among the participating girls and enhances awareness and understanding of gender equality issues.
Ogunsemore added that the summit would inspire and empower girls to become change agents in their respective communities, in furtherance of the mission of the BeMore Empowered Girls Foundation.
“The girls’ secondary school summit in commemoration of International Women’s Day aims to provide a transformative experience for young girls, empowering them to realize their potential and become catalysts for change in creating a more gender-equal world. By investing in the empowerment of girls today, we are investing in a brighter and more equitable future for all, “she added.
BeMore Sisters Network consists of alumnae of the BeMore Empowered Girls Foundation, a platform where girls are groomed to become future female technological leaders and entrepreneurs.
Founded by the wife of the immediate past Governor of Ondo State, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, in 2017, about 3000 girls across the length and breadth of the state took part in the two-week summer boot camp, where they were equipped with ICT, solar technology training, and entrepreneurial skills.
The BeMore Network Sisters, however, was birthed in 2022 by five alumnae with the sole aim of organizing free ICT training for other girls.
Reacting to the plan of the BeMore Sisters’ Network to hold the summit, the founder expressed delight about their commitment to the mission of the BeMore Empowered Girls Foundation, noting that it’s a pointer to the fact that the initiative has come to stay.
